35 and a half and counting
It is no surprise that I have baby on the brain. I am about to be a new mommy, something that I have wanted to be since I was three. Even though I have wanted to do this my entire life I still have some anxiety that is accompanying the overwhelming excitement I feel. After our birthing class this past weekend, I feel even more confused on how I want this labor to go. Epidural or no epidural? That seems to be the big question on my brain. I don't like the idea of excruciating pain but then again I don't like the idea of being tied to the bed and depending on others to move my legs. Any thoughts or suggestions????

I've done the epidural once, went without once, and had a c-section once. An epidural means having to stay in bed, but you can still move your legs...you just can't tell you're moving them! I am glad I had it, because it took a lot of the stress away, so things moved along a little faster. First time labor usually takes the longest; the second time you give birth the time's usually about half. So my suggestion is to have the epidural the first time. Enjoy the "birthing experience" au naturale the second time, when you're not so scared!

Rachael,
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with Dena. I have labored with and without as well. My first was without and I totally regret it. After having one with my second, I would never do it again without an epidural. My opinion is why suffer if you do not have to. It is super scary the first time and I think you will enjoy the experience much more without so much pain. Best of luck to you in whatever you decide.
Thank you both so much for your input. I really like hearing from women who have done both because they have a broader perspective. You have given me some good information to consider. Thanks for being there for me!
ReplyDeleteEpidural Epidural! GO GO GO! You can do it!!!
ReplyDeleteHaving JUST gone through birth, I would recommend an epidural. I went the first 7 hours without it, and I was definitely ready for some relief. It actually allowed me to take a little bit of a nap, which was a lifesaver. I was not able to walk around after the epidural (I walked the halls before I got it), but I was able to change positions within the bed without much problem. I also let the epidural wear off before I started pushing and that was a good choice - I don't know if I could have pushed this little guy out if I couldn't have felt the contractions and pushed with them.
ReplyDeleteThank you for that information. I think that is so helpful! My husband and I have discussed doing something very similar to what you did. I actually feel a lot better about the labor since I have heard feedback from you all. Yay, blogs! Very helpful.
